February Electronic Horse Racing Again, we had a great turnout and a fantastic time at our 2nd Electronic Horse Races. This is one of our best fundraiser and one the community is starting to anticipate. The evening started with dinner, then the races with $2 bets and then, finally, a dance.
Club Member Trail Ride at Canfield Holler near Montrose hosted by Jimmy and Donna Jeffries. We had a nice turn-out and the trails were nice and clear - a good start to the riding season. Thanks go to Jimmy, Donna, Norma and Judy for a great meal after the ride. Welcome to new members, the Nesbitts. It was nice seeing the "Harman Gang" after such a long winter!
Club Trail Ride in Pickens hosted by Ron and Sandra Beckwith was great. It was a relatively easy ride along lumber roads that took us through some nice territory and back thru the little town for saddle-bag refills. The rain held off just long enough for us to get back to camp and get settled in. Dinner was fantastic!
United Way Benefit Ride at Becky's Creek near Huttonsville June 6 We had a wonderful showing of riders from Jane Lew and Buckhannon and we enjoyed their company! Thanks for coming! In the end, we gave $700 to United Way and had a fantastic time doing it. Thanks Jerry & Phyllis for hosting.
NBHA Sow Camp Pioneer June 20 Days of rain led to swampy conditions in the arena. The day of the show, downpours delayed our start to 7:00pm. After many hours of tilling, the high winds dried out the arena enough that the brave and patient souls sped around the barrels. Denese Kerr was the winner of the payback jackpot.
Greenbrier River Trail Ride July 16,17,18 About 20-23 members gathered for this 2-3 day ride. We started in Marlinton - a delayed start due to HEAVY downpours! - and finished in Renick. All lunches and dinners were catered, so tired riders just had to deal with their horses. Entertainment was provided by the Nesbitts - what a wonderful duo (helped along by Mark P. who kept them honest). Thanks go to Jim Burk (who helped w/shuttle), Mary McMeekin and John Walkup (who helped with overnight accommodations for riders and horses).
Ride Between the Rivers Endurance Rice August 8 This was our 3rd annual 30 & 50 mile AERC and OAATS sanctioned endurance rides and it went off without a hitch! Over 70 riders competed with very few injuries or pulled horses. We have had extremely positive feedback from the riders - especially how much they loved our trails and our club members. Everyone seemed to be having a marvelous time! For more information, go to www.ridethecheat.com . Reserve this weekend next year the the 4th Annual. To volunteer to help with the event, call Tracy Walker at 304-636-8363.
Dolly Sods Club Ride August 15 Randy Vance and Sue Marks did a fabulous job leading us through tricky territory for this 5.5 hour club ride. We had 39 club members and guests join us for a picture perfect day on "the sods". Thanks so much, Randy & Sue.
White Club Ride at Nebo September 11-13 Frank, Rena and Amy White hosted their annual 2-day ride in Nebo, WV. About 20 riders showed up for each days' ride. The food was great and so was the riding! Thanks to all of you for such a great time!
Annual Club FUN SHOW September 26 at Camp Pioneer in Beverly. Nasty weather kept the majority of participants away but those that showed had a fun time!
Club Ride @ Kedron October 11 at Deb Moss'. What a nice crowd...about 36 riders participated in this beautiful ride through old-growth forest and pine groves. The weather was cool and the leaves had just started to turn - a perfect start to the fall season. Thanks Deb and Jackie!
